Just a Thought with Pastor Bill

July 1, 2026 By Bill Burnham

Just a Thought: One more thing off my check list! I live by lists. I have to have to-do lists in order to organize my day. I make that list of all I need to do. Then I re-organize the list by priority. Then I begin to attack the list from the top down. I do have to be flexible because sometimes I have the time or ability to do some things out of order and sooner than others. One thing I never have to have on my list is to get even! This item does not belong on my list not because I am a preacher. But it’s not on my list because it is never for me to do. Don’t get me wrong. If I didn’t have my focus where it needs to be. (Or should I say, when I don’t have my focus where it needs to be), It can make the top of my list. But it still doesn’t get done. And it doesn’t get done for the same reason it doesn’t belong on my list. It is not mine to do! One truth we know is preached from the beginning to the end of the Bible is “God is Just.” He will judge and make right all that is wrong. This means He will care for me (and you). And He will take care of things that aren’t right when people do us wrong. When and how He does it, is not my concern. It is not my job. It is way above my pay grade. So, it is not to be my worry. As Paul told the Thessalonians’ there faithfulness would be blessed. Their suffering was not in vain. God Himself would balance the scales, mete out trouble to those who troubled them. “God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you.” (2 Thess 1:6) CHECK! One more thing off my check list! DONE! When? Doesn’t matter. HOW? Doesn’t matter. What does matter is, this truth allows me to walk around as if I have really accomplished something. As I concern myself with being faithful to the Lord, He will take care of the trouble side of things. Listen, I don’t know about you. But my daily to do list can get really full really fast. So, any time someone can take just one thing off of it for me, I am grateful. But I can tell you this. I am even more grateful there is one thing I never even have to put on my list because the Lord says, “That’s not your job.” So, if getting even is on your to-do list, TAKE IT OFF! It’s not your job, your concern or your worry. Give it to the Lord with our complete trust and then you too can take one more thing off your list and check it as DONE!
