Just a Thought: What happens when one truly gets saved cannot be humanly manufactured. The reason this is true is because salvation is not simply turning over a new leaf, it is getting a new heart and becoming a new you. I know lots of people who have “turned over a new leaf” in their life. I know lots of people who have “started a new chapter.” I even know lots of people who have had a change of heart about one issue or another. And all of these things can and are humanly manufactured. But, when it comes to getting a new heart and becoming a new you, that is a completely different thing and story. David describes what happens in one when they bring their sin to God and He provides us salvation from it. “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. (Ps 51:1-2) First, David acknowledges salvation from sin is from God alone. He seeks God’s mercy and appeals to God’s unfailing love. The Bible tells us God’s love for us is so great it caused Him to provide redemption for our sin by sending His own Son Jesus to the cross to bear our sins and die in our place (Jn. 3:16, Rom. 5:8; 6:23). Second David ask God to compassionately blot out or remove his sin from Him. This is not something we can do. In the New Testament, Paul quotes verse 4 of Psalms fifty one in Rom 3:4 as part of his argument that the whole world is guilty before God. we are not just sinners by choice but also by nature (v. 5; 1 John 1:8). The fact that even saved people still sin shows us we cannot remove sin from ourselves. This is an act of God and must be done through the power of God. We can acknowledge our sin and confess our sin as David does here. But only God can remove our sin. As one author put it, “The sinfulness of humans doesn’t mean that people can’t do anything good (Luke 11:13) but that their “goodness” can’t earn them entrance into God’s family (Eph 2:8-10; Titus 3:3-7). So, God alone can and must remove our sin. Third David asks God to clean him up. To literally “Wash and cleanse” him. Again, this is something only God can do. Because this would literally be to take a bath and change clothes. We can possibly clean up our act to some degree. But only God can give us a new heart (internally) and make us new. That is something we have never been before. And that is exactly what God does when He saves us, He makes us new (2 Cor. 5:17)! What happens when one truly gets saved cannot be humanly manufactured. This is true because EVERTHING that happens when one truly gets saved is an act of God that only God can do. So, my friend if you are claiming today to be saved and made a part of God’s family by anything other than the grace and hand of God, you have not experienced true salvation. I beg you today to come to the Lord and receive true salvation! Which is, the complete forgiveness and removal of your sin and be made new by the love and grace of God through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom. 6:23; 10:9-13).
