Just a Thought: I hate to admit this in public, but I love food. And what is worse is, I like a good buffet. Now I have to be very careful because my flesh takes over sometimes and I eat too much. And I do know this can be a weakness, so I have to really limit the number of times I go to places that have good buffets. I’ll tell you another secret about me. I like to look at the recipes on Facebook (well, actually for those who know me, that’s not really a secret). There are so many of them I would love to try. But, no I don’t try everyone I like or post. The truth is food is good and necessary. However, you know as well as I do, we should eat healthy and take care of our bodies. So, diet and exercise are important for health and longevity of life. So, I look at a lot of food, but I don’t eat a lot of what is bad for me. Well, now that we’re both hungry. I do want to talk to you about a food that is very good for you and absolutely necessary for health (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually). I think David probably liked food too. He uses it for a metaphor (word picture) to describe his relationship with God and His word. Listen to how he puts it. “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you,… My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.” (Ps 63:1, 5) David expressed how he hungered and thirsted for the Lord. And, how that the Lord and his walk with Him and fellowship in His word was more satisfying to David than the richest of food! Praising God would be the result like coming out of great buffet saying, “Oh my, that was soooo Good!” The problem with eating food is that we just get hungry again. Physical food only fills us up to let us down. But, this food, the food of fellowship with God and His word just keeps on satisfying my soul. It gives me the energy for living. The power and strength to keep going. And all the excitement and satisfaction of a well done buffet without any of the negative impacts! When my desire is for the Lord, I desire to feast on the word and praise the Lord for all its benefits. I hate to admit this in public, but I love food. But I am glad to admit in public, I love the food the Lord gives to me when I thirst and hunger for Him! If you want to go to the buffet, I’ll go (once in a while). But I want to invite you to come to a continual buffet of fellowship with the Lord and His word. You too can be more satisfied with that than you can with the richest food in town. Dear Lord, thank You that You not only provide all I need daily. But thank You Lord, You are all I need daily! You satisfy me more than the richest food in town! May my soul hunger and thirst for You above all else and be satisfied. In Jesus name, amen.
