Just a Thought: The Lord promises to provide all of our needs. But we often tend to want more, more ,more. What I think I need and what the Lord knows I need are often very different. The wise man writing proverbs knew the danger of wanting more, more, more from God. So, he prayed a prayer we could (should) all pray. “Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.” (Prov 30:7-8) The writer knew that if God gave him too much, he would eventually become full of pride and self-sufficiency and deny his need for the Lord. This is what has happened to so many today. We live in a day, time and especially in America, in country, we are so blessed that we forget we have a desperate need for God daily! We have plenty and because of this, we don’t depend upon the Lord as we should. We don’t thank the Lord as we should. We don’t acknowledge, if God didn’t give us what we have we wouldn’t have anything. Blessings are wonderful and God loves to give us good things. But these things need to be kept in perspective so that we do not forsake or ignore the Lord. He is worthy of praise and deserving of our humble gratitude! Now, on the other hand. If we struggle to make ends meet and our daily bread is hard to come by, the same thing may happen. I may do things that will dishonor God’s name in an attempt to meet my own needs (perceived or real) on my own. Then because I did not allow the Lord to meet my needs, I have dishonored Him. I may complain and disparage His name. I may turn my back to the Lord feeling He has not loved and cared for me as He said He would. The Lord promises to provide all of our needs. But we often tend to want more, more, more. So, what am I to do? We are to trust in the Lord to meet our daily needs. Be grateful for the needs He meets as He meets them. And with that and every blessing over and above my basic daily needs, I am to humbly give God thanksgiving and praise! Acknowledging all I have come from His hand and without Him, I would have nothing! Finally, stay humble and be satisfied with all the Lord gives us believing He has promised and will supply all my needs. “Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.” In Jesus name I pray this.
