Just a Thought with Pastor Bill

July 29, 2026 By Bill Burnham

Just a Thought: One of the greatest benefits of resting securely in the arms of the Lord is experiencing the peace that brings. When you go to bed at night do you lock your doors? More than likely you do. And this gives you a sense of security doesn’t it? You can go rest knowing that the house is secure and you are safe inside. It is similar only better with resting in the security of the Lord. When I am resting in His control and relying on His strength and power each day, I have nothing to fear. I know that I am committing my life and times into the hands of almighty God. I can rest knowing that whatever I face, He is already aware of it and has a plan for it. Fear and anxiety most often come from the unknown. The unknown results of the medical tests. The unknown future outcome of a situation. The unknown of where will the resources come from to meet a need, especially an unexpected one. But the peace comes from knowing I am secure in the arms of the Lord. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours. He sees what I don’t. He knows what I can’t. And my times are in His hands. And I know above all else, He loves me. Paul, in his letter of joy called Philippians, writes from prison awaiting the possibility of a death sentence. His future is uncertain. And, yet he writes to a group of believers to be encouraged by doing the following. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:6-7) Paul didn’t just write these words, he lived them. His mindset was, whatever tomorrow holds for me, I will trust it into the hands that hold me. Paul didn’t promote a life of carefree living. He acknowledged that there would be things that would impact us and threaten to make us anxious. He simply advised, when they do, we take these things to the Lord in prayer. Keep these petitions before the One who can do something about them. With gratitude for the security being in the arms of the Lord brings, talk these things over with the Lord and rest in the peace of being securely in the arms of the Lord. What good does it do to lock our doors and then spend the night awake and worrying? None! One of the greatest benefits of resting securely in the arms of the Lord is experiencing the peace that brings. Are you resting in the arms of the Lord today? How do I know? Are you experiencing His peace today? Anxiety and peace cannot co-exist anymore than trust and worry can. We have the ability to choose which one we desire to live with. Choose peace today and rest securely in the arms of the Lord and experience His benefits.
