Just a Thought with Pastor Bill

August 5, 2026 By Bill Burnham

Just a Thought: The Lord encourages and welcomes our prayers! God loves to communicate to us through His word, circumstances, other people and in our Spirit through the Holy Spirit who lives in every believer. But God also invites us to come to Him and come often and persistently in prayer. Tell Him our needs, concerns and desires. Seeking above all, Him and His will, direction and wisdom in matters we face. The Lord loves for us to depend upon Him and lean on His grace. He invites us to pray boldly for the things of His will. And to keep things before Him. Someone may think, “I bet God gets so tired of hearing me pray.” But He doesn’t. Whatever you’re looking for or need, He wants you to bring it to Him. Jesus had already taught the disciples how to pray by giving them a model for prayer in chapter six. But then here He explains to them they should not just pray. But pray continually. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matt 7:7-8) Jesus goes on to explain God loves to give good things to His children. We know from Jesus and James that we ought not to pray doubting. Or to ask for self-serving and selfish things like that little red convertible corvette. However, when we pray according to God’s word and His will, He hears us and desires to answer us. Sometimes God’s answer is no. That is okay because we know He is perfect, righteous and holy in all of His ways and His ways are higher than ours. And, for this same reason, sometimes His answer is “Yes, but not right now.” Then, at other times He says yes! And sometimes the Lord loves to hear from us just so we can say thank You! And just praise Him without asking for anything. We should pray not just for things from God, but also just to seek Him and to know Him! Prayer is a wonderful and powerful tool. The prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much! So, it is important for us to pray and pray often! The Lord encourages and welcomes our prayers! And it is through proper praying you will find whatever it is you need from the Lord. Pray believing. Pray trusting. Pray continually. Pray knowing God loves for us to do it and He will answer!
