Just a Thought: Our God is a good, good father! I like the Chris Tomlin’s worship song “Good, Good Father. The lyrics simply and appropriately state that God is a Good, Good Father because that is who He is. And, for those who find themselves searching for something (and in many cases not sure what), they can find in a personal relationship with God pure and complete and rewarding satisfaction. In fact, we were just having a discussion last evening about the difference between one who knows of God and one who knows God. For example, in our church someone can say, do you know Tom ____? And they may look across the room and see Tom and say, “Oh yes I know Tom.” Now, what they are saying is, I know who Tom _____ is. I can point him out. I know he exists. I can identify him by sight or his picture. They may have heard him speak or even watched him do something. But if they have never spent any time with Tom. If they have never invested in having a personal relationship of getting to know Tom. If they have never spent any time with Tom, they only know about Tom. They cannot say they actually really know Tom and know him personally. This is how many are with their relationship with God. They know about Him. The believe that He exists. But they don’t have a personal intimate knowledge or relationship with Him. They only know Him from a far. And frankly, that is a real shame. Because if they would come to Him with a personal commitment to believe upon Him (not just in Him). They would find such joy, relief, comfort, love and goodness. Jesus made this comparison, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matt 7:11) Jesus is not being degrading here. He is simply pointing out, if men with sinful, fleshly natures desire to do good by their children. How much more do you think a perfect heavenly father desires to do good for His children. Jesus said that we can know God as a good, good father and we should! Jesus told us of a spiritual birth that makes us Kingdom people (children of God (Jn. 3:6-7). John’s gospel tells us, we must receive Him (Jn. 1:12). We can know more about God than just know of Him. We can come to Him through Jesus in faith believing and know Him! Our God is a good, good father! He invites you who are searching, to find in Him all you need and be satisfied! Come to the Lord today and find in Him your good, good father.
Dear father, I thank You today that it is Your desire to know me and be known by me. I come to You today through faith believing. You loved me so much before I even knew You, that You sent Your son Jesus to die on a cross in my place, for my sin. I personally trust in His sacrificial death, burial and resurrection as the means for my complete forgiveness of my sin. I turn from my sin and my empty pursuits to You oh God and, trust in You for new life and a new and personal relationship with You through Jesus. I take you today as my Good father and thank You for accepting me as your child. Help me today to begin to walk and grow in this life and relationship with You. In Jesus name, amen. My friend, if you prayed this prayer today, please share that with someone who can help you begin to grow in this new relationship!
