Just a Thought with Pastor Bill

May 12, 2026 By Bill Burnham

Just a Thought: Even my deepest pain is no secret to the Lord. There is suffering and then there is suffering. There is the kind of suffering people can see from the outside. The pain of physical hurting. I can see someone is suffering from sickness, a broken bone, or surgery. I can see someone is suffering in grief or from a relational or financial issue. But then there is the pain we cannot see. The emotional wrestling match going on under the one who seems okay on the surface. The one who puts on a good front, but inside they are really coming undone. This pain is deep and not always easy to detect. This is why many suicides catch family and friends be surprise. One of those deep pains that some struggle with is the pain of rejection. They don’t always talk about this pain. And, even when they do, it may be brief and then they seem to be over it. But deep inside they are not. And as a result, they continue to suffer and usually, mostly in silence. Well, if you are suffering from rejection and you are suffering alone and in silence, I want you to know two things are absolutely true right now. First, you are not alone! There is one who knows the deepest level of your pain. And He not only knows you’re in pain, but He has experienced your pain as well. His name is Jesus and even before He came from heaven to earth (hundreds of years before), we were told by the prophet Isaiah, “He (Jesus) was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isa 53:3) We are told Jesus would suffer His own rejection. And, because He was all man and all God, He would feel the sting of that rejection every bit as bad as you do. His rejection affected Him so badly it caused Him to weep. So today, if you feel like you are left to suffer alone. Weeping in secret or private, you are not alone! Jesus knows your deepest level of pain, and He has felt it too. Second, not only are you not alone and not only is there another who understands. But, because He does understand, He can be a help in your time of need. When we suffer rejection, we can associate with Jesus and He can associate with us. He is one we can talk to about our pain. He is one we can turn to in our pain. I have friend and a helper who knows, understands and can help me in and through my deepest pain. I want to encourage you today to turn to Him and find the comfort and help you need from Him today. Lord, You know how I am feeling today. You know the struggle is so real! And, Lord, You know this because You suffered from it too. Thank You Lord for being a friend to me in my deepest time of need. Fill me with your strength and comfort and help me Jesus overcome my struggle with rejection and rejoice in finding acceptance in You. Thank you Jesus for being my friend, companion and comfort today and every day. In Jesus name, amen.
